
TELUPID DISTRICT COUNCIL'S BACKGROUND
The State Government through the decision of the Cabinet Meeting on 28 March 2018 has approved the establishment of Telupid District Council from 01 July 2018 with a financial allocation of RM500,000.00 to cover the initial cost of its establishment and its operational costs at the initial stage.
The establishment of the Telupid District Council was gazetted in the Government Gazette for the Telupid District Council Instrument 2019 on 23 January 2020 under the provisions of section 3 of the Local Government Ordinance 1961.
At the beginning of its establishment, Telupid District was the administrative area of the Beluran District Council. Telupid District Council has commenced full operations on 1 January 2021 and its offices are located in the Telupid Secretariat Building adjacent to the Telupid District Office. However, the new Telupid District Council Office Building located next to the Telupid District Council Multipurpose Hall has been completed and was officiated by Sabah Chief Minister YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Bin Haji Noor on 14 May 2022.
The administrative area of Telupid District Council is the entire Telupid district which is 2,210.25 square kilometres or equivalent to 853.38 square miles. It is also divided into five (5) sub-districts, namely Mukim Ulu Labuk, Mukim Pekan, Mukim Liwogu, Mukim Nangoh, and Mukim Sapi. The total population is 29,704 people with 9,024 houses (Department of Statistics Malaysia: Malaysian Population and Housing Census 2020). Telupid District also has one (1) Draft Telupid Local Plan, Numbered Plan 08157007 an area of approximately 1,258.17 hectares (3,109 acres).
Telupid District Council carries out its responsibilities based on the legislation under the Local Government Ordinance 1961, Telupid District Council Instrument 2019, Town and Country Planning Ordinance (Sabah Cap. 141), Uniform Building By-Laws 2022, Uniform (Compounding Offences) By-Laws 2013, Uniform (Guest) By-Laws 2014, Uniform (Anti-Littler) By-Laws 2010, Uniform (Beauty and Health Care Centre) By-Laws 2014, Public Entertainments Ordinance 1958, Uniform (Segregation and Disposal of Organic Waste) By-Laws 2016, Uniform (Licensing The Use of Premises For Trade, Business, Industry and Profession) By-Laws 2022, Uniform (Food Establishment) By-Laws 2022, and any relevant laws still in force.
